(EBSI-Vector Information Pills: Implementation and results III)
Continuing the series on EBSI-VECTOR’s implementation phase and key results, this new pill focuses on the deployment and testing scenarios in the education sector, following the previous highlight on the business blueprint for social security.
The project explored the application of decentralized identity technology within education, leveraging the European Blockchain Service Infrastructure (EBSI) to pilot use cases with educational organizations across Europe. The goal was to assess feasibility, usability, and challenges in adopting these innovative solutions.
Key scenarios addressed included:
- Transcript & Academic Record Management: Secure handling of educational records.
- Student Journey: Facilitating transitions between institutions.
- Erasmus+ Participation: Streamlining mobility program processes.
- Diploma Issuance & Employer Verification: Securing digital diplomas and verifying credentials.
- Student Card Verification & Intellectual Property Protection: Managing student IDs and protecting creative work.
The initiative engaged 31 organizations from 10 European countries, resulting in 17 developed user journeys. Initial results were positive, with strong institutional interest, though challenges such as funding and technology adoption were identified. Ongoing work aims to refine these solutions and develop use cases for broader validation and adoption.
This work also aligned with the evolving eIDAS2 regulation, which is expected to accelerate the adoption of decentralized identity in education. Insights from these pilots will be instrumental in shaping the future of digital identity for students, educators, and institutions across Europe-improving security, privacy, and efficiency.
These findings are fully documented in Deliverable D4.2: “Deployment and Testing Scenarios Results Library (DTSRL)”. We encourage you to explore it in detail.
We look forward to sharing the upcoming information pills with you!
